Overture Single Orchard 2021
Tasting note: A rich, intense and full bodied nose full of dried fruit, brambles and caramel. The palate hits with richness, cider fruit depth and complexity alongside a powerful salinity. There is a long finish with tropical notes and a line of sweetness.
Ideal as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to seafood or cold cuts.
2021 was a challenging vintage. A year that saw a number of extremes. The winter was mild and wet. The growing season started unseasonably cold with frosts hitting as well as very unsettled and wet weather. The summer started warm but became more and more unsettled with top temperatures sitting below the 10 year average. Ripening occurred slowly which pushed back harvest by over 2 weeks. August and September were wet months. Harvest commenced on the 9th of October for the Bramley and 20th October for the Kingston Black and Stoke Red.
At press the both the Kingston Black and Stoke Red showed immense quality and depth. They were vinified separately (as all of our fruit is!), and blossomed beautifully in barrel over the next 10 months. It took several months of tasting and retasting to bring this blend together to really showcase the beauty of this orchard.
We chose to highlight the intensity, richness and depth that the bittersharp apples bring alongside the bright acid profile of their Bramley. The result is a refined cider that will happily be drunk on its own or alongside almost any cuisine.
